HUMBLE IS A HOAX.

Since we all lived the same childhood - and in ways are living the same adulthood too – it think it’s safe to say we have all been told at some point in our lives to “be humble”. Let’s dive into that request shall we?

I didn’t work my ass off, sacrifice all the parties y’all keep finding time to attend, put myself in debt, and overcome unfathomable obstacles on this path just to minimize myself in order to make you feel comfortable. You have the wrong fool. Humble is a hoax. If you’re wondering why I chose the word “hoax” to describe it, let me provide its official definition:

 hoax [/hōks/]

noun: hoax; plural noun: hoaxes

a humorous or malicious deception.

When someone tells you to be humble it truly is a form of deception – a request of you to only share enough information within the limitations they allow in order to mask their own insecurity; ironically enough, this actually projects the insecurity now onto you causing you to feel insecure about telling the real facts about yourself. They aren’t asking you to stop lying – they are asking you to stop telling the truth.

We have all fallen to the wrath of humbleness and it often can be the sole catalyst preventing you from exceling beyond your peers. I have caught myself many times in the past glossing over very important details and accolades when someone asks me what I do or what I’ve done in order to not come off as bragging or cocky. THEY ARE JUST THE FACTS OF MY LIFE. Society has created a very hostile environment for those who choose to do more. This environment can be seen as far back as elementary school when that kid in the class with the best grades was made fun of for being a “too smart.” Imagine that nonsense – being ridiculed for exceling. HUMBLE. IS. A. HOAX.

Continue to excel. Continue to push the bar. Continue to document your successes. Continue to share the great things in your life with the healthy people in your circle. Lastly, stop being humble.

You’re the shit.
