JUST GET AWAY

I would like to start off by saying thank you. Thank you for showing up to a very optional class for the first lecture. There was nothing forcing you to come here, so it’s safe to assume you are here because you genuinely care about whatever I have to say – so again, I say thank you.

Same shit. Different day. Repeat. That is the story for most of our lives, and we all hate it – I know I do. If it was up to you, and money was not a factor, you would probably quit your job tomorrow morning. Unfortunately, this thing called life isn’t a fairytale – or is it? I view each point in my life as a level that has a door at the end bringing me to the next level; it doesn’t matter what route I take to reach that door, as long as I get there. There is no instruction manual on life – you either learn from your own experiences or the experiences of those around you. Those are your two options, but they are not flawless. You will still end up landing on your face many times – so put on your psychological helmet.

Do you like to travel? If you don’t, I guess you must really love your hometown and not give a shit about what the rest of the world has to offer. As for the rest of us, traveling is one of the few things money cannot be wasted on. Traveling also seems to be the thing we make the most excuses for. I am about to destroy every single excuse you can make for why you can’t travel. The most popular excuse is that you don’t have the time to travel. Shut the hell up. You do have time. We all have the same hours in a day – the only thing that is different, is how we use those hours. If you claim to not have time this month, then I can guarantee that you won’t have time next month or the month after. This is because you lack time management and you really aren’t serious about traveling. You have the choice to take time off work, leave on a long weekend, or call in sick if you have to – there are always options. So your next excuse is most likely that you can’t afford it right? Again, shut the hell up. How much money have you wasted on food, entertainment, clothes, and other bullshit last month? Enough to pay for a trip, trust me. Money management is also key if you actually want to travel. Listen, there are people who just say they want to travel but don’t actually want to – maybe you’re that type of person. If you aren’t, then this is just another excuse based on your lack of self-control and planning. The last excuse you may have left is that you have nobody to travel with. Do you need someone to help you take a shower too? Traveling solo was probably one of the best decisions I’ve ever made in my life. There is something about solidarity that really teaches you about yourself – learning how to enjoy being alone is a hidden gem.

Just get away. If you want to do something, you will do it. It’s a very simple concept. Stop talking and do things. As I write this, I’m returning from a sporadic trip to Brooklyn, New York, with 3 of my boys. I mentioned to one of them that I wanted to go to New York for no reason – just to get away. He messaged a couple of the guys, we coordinated a time that worked for all of us, rented a Chevy Tahoe and drove our asses 10 hours out the city of Toronto. NO LONG TALKING. We literally spent a weekend in New York, and made it the best weekend of 2017 so far. I vlogged this entire trip, so if you’d like to see what fun looks like, you’ll find it on my KOATalk channel this week.

That’s all I have for you this week in The Classroom. I hope you enjoyed your weekend and were able to take at least one thing from this lecture. Thank you for stopping by – maybe I’ll have your eyes back next week. Happy Easter!
