Before you even think to ask.

The answer is no.

There are no discounts.

This may be a well overdue discussion topic that I constantly address in person with individuals, but never once shared in a well-articulated and consumable way – so let me do that now.

Although this may resonate mostly with entrepreneurs, it is still an important topic for customers, clients, friends and family members to effectively understand.

STOP ASKING FOR DISCOUNTS.

PAY WHAT THEY SAY.

IF YOU CANNOT AFFORD IT, GO BACK AND SAVE UP.

Hopefully that is very clear and loudly received because this really needs to stop. The large majority of people who ask for discounts are requesting small businesses owned by friends and family members to not only drop their prices for them, but essentially are asking these businesses to PAY THEM. Let me further explain – if a small business gives you a discount on their product or service in order for YOU to keep more money in YOUR pocket, they literally are paying you from their business. Nothing is free, and the products or services that those companies provide typically are not discounted to them; so why on EARTH would a small business pay full price to fund their business only to provide YOU a discount to keep more money in YOUR pocket just because? Read that backwards if you have to.

There are no discounts. SOMEHOW people always seem to find the money to pay for the things that matter to them from large corporations – whether it’s the new iPhone, some sneakers, dinner at their favourite restaurant, or something as simple as groceries. YOU FIND THE MONEY DON’T YOU? SO FIND THE MONEY AND PAY YOUR FRIENDS AND FAMILY EXACTLY WHAT THEY SAY.

Now, if someone chooses to provide a discount at their own expense and wilfulness, then you shall gladly receive one – but do not ask them. Not everyone has the capacity and/or confidence to say “no” even when they really want to, so please stop putting them in that position of pressure. In fact, you should be excited and willing to pay a small business of a friend or family member full price to reward them for the sacrifice and hard work they put into their business that nobody will ever see.
